This course provides hands on training for physiotherapists to develop their skills in Women's Pelvic Health.

This course is for female physiotherapists interested in extending their knowledge and skills in Women's Pelvic Health Physiotherapy. Our advanced Pelvic Pain Course is designed for those who have already completed our Foundations Course, or equivalent and who have clinical experience in Womens Pelvic Health. Internal vaginal examinations are part of this course.

This course is for female physiotherapists who have would like to expand their knowledge and clinical practice to assist patients with pelvic pain.

Our course is designed for small group learning and we offer a one-on-four tutor ratio for any of our intimate examination practicals.

As this is an advanced course, it is a requirement that you have completed one of the prerequisite courses, or have equivalent clinical experience.

The University of Melbourne's Postgraduate Certificate in Physiotherapy (Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy)
Curtin University's Graduate Certificate in Clinical Physiotherapy (Continence and Women's Health Major)
WHTA 5-day Introductory Course
Pelvic Health Melbourne 4-day Pelvic Health Foundations Course

This 1-Day Course includes:

Theory Quiz
External Pain Assessment includes breath, ribs, abdominals, groin, inguinal region, spinal assessment, and neural testing.
Internal Pain Assessment with a q tip, touch mapping, skin assessment, and internal anterior wall assessment.
Treatment techniques for pain include TENs, pain science, breath work, stretches meditation and mindfulness, and external releases of tension.
Lubes, moisturisers, oestrogen cream
Dilators, vibrators, wands, ohnuts, rings
Case Studies

A Certificate of Completion will be provided for this session.

Detailed daily schedule

The learning objectives for this course are in two parts; 1. Theory and 2. Practical

Theory

Understanding basic concepts around pain science in relation to pelvic pain
To understand the detailed neuro-anatomy around the pelvis and vulva
To understand the definitions around pelvic pain
To identify different vulval skin conditions that a physiotherapist may see in clinical practice
To understand the pathophysiology behind endometriosis, adenomyosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.
To understand medical management for different pain conditions
To understand different physiotherapy treatment techniques for pelvic pain conditions
To complete clinical case studies in relation to different pelvic pain conditions

Practical

To perform a subjective assessment for a patient with pelvic pain
To perform an external pelvic pain assessment
To perform a complete pelvic pain assessment including vaginal examination
To be able to prescribe relevant treatment techniques for different pelvic pain conditions
To understand the relevance and appropriate use of vaginal dilators, TEN's, and vibrators in the management of pelvic pain.
To be able to use massage, neural and muscular stretches, breathing techniques and advise in the clinical management of patients experiencing pelvic pain

This course includes performing internal intimate assessments as well as acting as a patient and having these assessments performed on you.

Informed consent is required prior before to participation.

Whilst we do encourage you to experience internal examinations for your learning there are times when this is not possible due to medical or cultural reasons.

In these cases we ask that you arrange for a model to take your place for the internal exams by:

Bringing a model who you can practice on,
PAY for the services of a model to be examined in your place - at an additional cost

Please contact Pelvic Health Melbourne a MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS before the course commences to allow us adequate time to arrange a model for you, or to notify us that you will be bringing a model

We understand that plans can change and sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule a course. To ensure fairness and transparency, we have established the following terms and conditions:

Minimum numbers are required for this course to operate.
In the event the course is cancelled by Pelvic Health Australia (PHA) due to insufficient numbers, participants will be notified as soon as possible and enrolment fees will be refunded in full.
PHA will not be held responsible for any costs relating to travel and/or accommodation expenses or cancellation fees incurred.
All cancellations are to be notified in writing.

Please Note: If an unforeseen genuine emergency requires a cancellation, please contact our office. Refunds will be determined on a case-by-case basis only.

The following cancellation fees will apply for all cancellations by a participant:

After enrolment - A refund will be provided less an administration fee of $50.00.
30 Days before the course start date - 50% refund will be provided
14 days before the course start date - No refund will be provided.
No-show fee for non-attendance - No refund will be provided.

If PHA can fill the cancellation with a new student, a refund will be provided, less an administration fee of $100.

Melissa has worked in private practice as a pelvic health andsports/musculoskeletal physio for over 16 years. Melissa has focused the past 10 years of her pelvic health training and clinical load on working with complex pelvic health patients.

Melissa is a clinical expert in the management of SIJ, Pubic Symphysis, Coccyx pain and complex pelvic health complaints and educates in this field.
